Emily has practised at Sayer Jones for more than 11 years. She was recognised by Doyle’s Guide as a Family Law Rising Star in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Emily has a particular interest in complex litigation across both financial and parenting matters, bringing a strategic and outcome-focused approach to disputes involving challenging factual, evidentiary and legal issues.
Notable recent cases
Acted in a high-net-worth property matter involving an asset pool in excess of $300million, which litigated in relation to urgent spousal maintenance matters and injunctive relief to preserve assets pending final determination of the matter; and which subsequently settled at a private mediation.
Acted in a high-net-worth property matter involving an asset pool in excess of $40 million, resolved following mediation.
Finalised a Binding Financial Agreement which addressed the parties’ complex trust and corporate structures; liaising with accountants and commercial lawyers to ensure the matter was concluded with new commercial structures which were tax-effective.
Conducted complex financial proceedings which progressed to Final Hearing, involving multiple single experts and consulting/“shadow” experts, with issues including financial disclosure, business valuations and future income-earning capacity.
Negotiated an international high-net-worth property settlement involving assets in Singapore, New Zealand and Australia, working collaboratively with overseas Family Law and Commercial Law advisers.
Successfully represented a parent in a contested matter involving allegations our client was a risk and where our client alleged parental alienation; allegations of risk against our client were not established at trial and Final Orders were made for the children to live with our client.
Acted in an urgent recovery application where a parent was withholding a child in contravention of existing Court Orders.
Acted for and opposed to high-profile individuals, where confidentiality was priority for the client.
Attended Hearings for matters litigating internationally, including at the Singapore Family Justice Courts.
